When you invest in a sophisticated security or data system, it is vital to understand how your investment is protected after the work is completed.
At Links Integrated Systems, we draw on over 40 years of experience to provide tailored solutions for commercial buildings, office blocks, and residential developments. However, a common point of confusion for many clients is the difference between an Installation Warranty and an Ongoing Support Agreement.
While they might sound similar, they serve two very different purposes.
- The Installation Warranty: Assurance of Quality
An installation warranty is essentially a guarantee that the system was installed correctly and that the equipment provided is free from defects.
At Links Integrated Systems, our standard installation includes a 12-month labour and parts warranty starting from the date of commissioning and handover. This warranty covers:
- Installation-related faults.
- Failure of equipment supplied and installed by us (subject to manufacturer terms).
- Rectification of any faults directly related to the original installation.
What it does NOT cover:
The warranty is designed to stand behind the quality of the initial build; it is not an ongoing support service. It does not cover user changes (like adding fobs or permissions), software configuration adjustments, or faults caused by external factors like your network, power, or third-party systems.
- Support & Maintenance: Ongoing Care for a Live System
Once your system is “live,” the day-to-day operation—such as managing users, permissions, and reporting—becomes the client’s responsibility unless a separate agreement is in place.
A Support, Maintenance & Service Agreement is a separate, ongoing service designed to keep the system operating smoothly over time. While a warranty looks backward at the installation, a support agreement looks forward at how the system is used and maintained.
Key benefits of a support agreement include:
- Day-to-day technical assistance and troubleshooting.
- Remote diagnostics to resolve issues quickly.
- Annual preventative maintenance to ensure longevity.
- Priority response and preferential rates.
The Bottom Line: Why You Need Both
A simple way to remember the difference is:
- Warranty = Assurance the system was installed correctly.
- Support & Maintenance = Ongoing care and assistance once the system is in use.
Most issues that arise after a system goes live are operational or related to configuration changes, which sit outside the scope of a warranty. This is why we strongly recommend a support and maintenance agreement for any live access control or security system to ensure you are never left without assistance when you need it most.
